Shinjoo Cho (Korea / United States) and Alejo de los Reyes (Argentina / United States) met in Buenos Aires in 2014, when they were both living in that city. Seven years after that encounter in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Mataderos, both musicians again found themselves living in the same country and a few kilometers apart.
Shinjoo Cho, besides being a classical pianist and accordionist, leads the Oscuro Quintet which he founded in 2006 and is the only tango quintet in Philadelphia, as well as being part of the Abaddón sextet in New York. He has performed at notable venues in North America, Latin America and Korea, such as Severance Hall, Palais Montcalm, the Centro Cultural Kirchner and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with Branford Marsalis.
Alejo de los Reyes also has a long career, both as a classical musician and as a tango and Argentine popular music musician, with more than ten tours in Europe as a soloist or as a member of the trio Fulanos de Tal, and a dozen albums recorded with different formations, such as the Quinteto De los Reyes, or as a duo with Juan Carlos “Tata” Cedrón.
As a duo, since 2017 they have performed at venues such as the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia or the Lincoln Center and the Argentine Consulate in New York.
