I have the great joy to tell you that on Sunday, August 2nd, we’ll share one very special, one-time performance together with the beloved Tata Cedrón. We’ll be presenting “Flor de la Banda Oriental,” a book-album we made as a duo about the work of the immense Osiris Rodríguez Castillos, with beautiful illustrations by ISOL, who will also join us as a guest artist.
This project grew out of the enthusiasm and admiration we both feel for Osiris’s music and his artistry. We made it with all the respect and love his work deserves, and with the conviction that his stature as an author, composer, and performer deserves to keep growing among us.
Osiris (Montevideo, 1925–1996) was a troubadour of the old kind. With his guitar he told the story of his landscape, his time, and his world, with remarkable aesthetic depth and a sonic identity that blends the popular and the classical of our region. In Argentina he was celebrated by greats like Eduardo Falú, Jorge Cafrune, José Larralde, and Carlos Di Fulvio, and he remains an essential figure for those of us who love the guitar and the songs of the Río de la Plata.
This will be my only date in Argentina for this part of the year, since I’ll soon head back to New York to take part in the New York Tango Festival, and late next month I’ll also be performing in Europe.
