Join us on ths 28th to enjoy the multiple facets of argentinean tango! The music and the dance, of course, but also: the horizontal transmission of the secrets of tango playing in its purest form, trough a rehearsal and not trough a lesson, the celebration of friendship and culture, the songs… and some jamming at the end!
Philly Tango Lab will host two events on the same day, on the beautiful premises of Ethical Society: first, on the early afternoon, a workshop for musicians, with the members of Royale Trío: Emilio Teubal (piano), Sergio Reyes (violin) and Alejo de los Reyes (guitarist and creator of the Tango Lab).
At 5pm, doors will be open to the audience and there will be a space to dance, chat, and jam. Live music will be played by Royale trio and the musicians that show up every night. And will also feature the music that was rehearsed on the afternoon.
Overall, we aim to form a strong community around tango music, with a sense of friendship, sharing and joy, that can be able to greatly enhance the already strong tango scene on the tristate area, by forming musicians and ensembles, and by bringing some of the unique soul of Buenos Aires to every event.
Philly Tango Lab is a small group of volunteers that aims to create events in which tango dancers, musicians and general audience can experience the full extent of tango culture, as it is still alive in Buenos Aires, not only on Milongas (tango dances), but in small cafes in which singers connect with a devout audience, in the long rehearsals of the “Orquestas Típicas” (the tango Big Bands), in the connection between the musicians, dancers and audience, and, most of all, like it’s enjoyed among friends in a party.
Tango panorama might have changed in the last decades, but there’s still people who couldn’t concieve a good party without a guitar player and some singers. And if there’s empanadas or asado (and the ocassional wine), even better!
And we are backed by the Notsolatin organization, already a staple of South Philly, in which most of the community of musicians gather in a dozen of events every month to enjoy great home-made food, friendship, music and endeless jams.
